The Let’s Go Shopping holiday gift event official press release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 4, 2020
Contact: Laura Legendary
Email: lgsvirtualevents@gmail.com
PH: 702-605-1265

Discover an inclusive, online, accessible, virtual shopping mall that connects small businesses with the customers who need them.

Henderson, NV – Laura Legendary, owner of Elegant Insights Braille Creations, and founder of Let’s Go Shopping Virtual Events, has organized a two-day, online accessible experience for seniors and consumers with disabilities called “Let’s Go Shopping!” On November 10 and 11, 2020 from 8 AM PT to 5 PM PT, shoppers will be able to call or connect to the Zoom platform to shop for holiday gifts.

People with disabilities, seniors, and those in rural areas with limited bandwidth or lack of access to help from their family, in-home health care provider, or personal assistant may find navigating web sites to go shopping online difficult. “People with print or cognitive disabilities who would normally have access to assistive technology through their workplace, or a care worker on whom they rely to accomplish shopping tasks may now find themselves isolated, due to the need to protect themselves, or a vulnerable loved one, from Covid-19.

“This will be the fourth Let’s Go Shopping event,” says Legendary, who is blind. “Each has been more successful than the previous, as shoppers find new businesses to explore, both entrepreneurs and consumers benefit.”

Attendees will access the live online mall using the Zoom Video Conferencing platform. Zoom has been a lifesaver for students and parents who need to connect with teachers and colleagues. Zoom enables users to sign in using a desktop, laptop, smartphone app, or even their landline telephone.

Many of the participating vendors also have a disability, or have a close association with someone who does. Vendors are required to make the shopping experience as easy and as frictionless as possible, so they provide multiple ways for attendees to place orders. There are 18 participating vendors, offering everything from artisan crafted jewelry to fashion, food, gadgets and gizmos, pet and guide dog products, personalized gifts, beauty and skin care, home fragrance and decor, craft kits, leather goods, and technology.

“With so many people reluctant to shop in busy malls and crowded public spaces, the Let’s Go Shopping event is a fun way to do a mall crawl from the comfort of your couch,” says Legendary. “Just sit back, relax, and shop till you drop.”

Laura Legendary is owner of Elegant Insights Braille Creations, a distinctive, handcrafted collection of jewelry and accessories, made in the USA, and embossed in braille. Founded in 2011, Elegant Insights jewelry is meaningful, unusual, accessible, and inclusive. We bring out the beauty of braille.

Let’s Go Shopping 3: Back to School, and a Holiday 2020 Preview

Almost six months ago, I found myself fretting over the number of industries that were quickly becoming threatened by the need to “stay home to slow the spread,” due to the mandatory quarantines imposed in many US states. As I followed the negotiations taking place in Congress, and the decisions that were made as to which industries would receive the proposed billions in an effort to keep the economy afloat, I grew concerned about the fate of some of my friends, owners of micro businesses, those very small, home-based, sole proprietorships that are the only means of support for many entrepreneurs I knew. I began to wonder, as was the case the last time Congress passed a bail-out package during a time of national hardship, if people with disabilities were going to be left out.

Further, upon learning of the regulations passed as to which small businesses would be eligible for the Payroll Protection Plan, I realized that many of the entrepreneurs I knew personally would not qualify, as they either ran a one person operation, or had few employees who worked part-time, or as independent contractors. Would micro businesses be passed over? What about business owners with disabilities? Would they be eligible to receive the stimulus checks that were dispersed to families? It occurred to me that a segment of the population about which I care deeply might be in trouble if the so-called “Cares Act” didn’t much care for them. I decided to do something about it.

The best way I could think of to give entrepreneurs with disabilities a fighting chance was to find a way to help them increase sales. Without knowing for sure whether or not everyone was going to receive a stimulus check, I wanted to create a program that might be somewhat more sustainable that a $1200 gone-in-a-flash payment, even if a check were distributed to everyone.

The result was an experiment I called Let’s Go Shopping. The idea was to assist small businesses to gain exposure to new customers, while exposing customers to a fun and unique way to shop a variety of businesses, all in one place, all without leaving their home. Creating a virtual shopping mall seemed infinitely less cumbersome for a small business owner than flying to a distant city to exhibit at a conference, with the requisite hotel stay and associated expenses, or applying for a business loan, or spending grueling hours working a trade show floor, which wasn’t possible during the Corona virus pandemic, anyway.

And what of the shoppers who could no longer go out? The ones who lacked a solid Internet connection, or who did not have a multiplicity of online access, due to children and/or spouse working from home? What about people who still wanted to send gifts, but who felt overwhelmed by the cognitive burden of online shopping, and who were frustrated about not being able to be part of upcoming graduation ceremonies, Easter gatherings, or Mother’s Day? Lockdown affected everyone differently, and as usual, I saw no one addressing the needs of the most vulnerable among us, people with disabilities, not-so-tech-savvy seniors, people with underlying health conditions, people stuck at home, with limited options. How could I connect small businesses with the customers who needed them?

The Let’s Go Shopping model is an online, accessible, virtual mall where anyone with a PC, laptop, smartphone, or even an old-school landline telephone can connect, via Zoom, to a variety of small businesses, just like in any real-world shopping mall. The first event was multiple hours, the second was multiple days, and the third will be the best yet.

Join us Friday, September 4th and Saturday, September 5th from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Pacific, 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM Eastern Time for Let’s Go Shopping 3 – Back to School and Holiday Gift Preview.

Want to start your holiday shopping early? Looking for unique fall decor
for your home? Want to get ready for the new school year in
style? We’ll have tech gadgets and guide dog gear, apparel and accessories, food, art, jewelry, and personalized gifts. We’ll even have help for remote workers setting up home offices, or for parents who need to set up home-schooling or distance learning stations. Expect a
fantastic mix of small businesses to explore, whether shopping for yourself, your
kids, or for fall and winter 2020.  Let’s Go Shopping is a virtual mall like no
other, so grab your gift list and your phone, and Zoom in to our 2-day
event!

Get the Zoom virtual shopping mall invitation by subscribing to our announce list. You can send a blank email to:

lgs+subscribe@groups.io

or go to:

groups.io/g/LGS

Please share the news with your own network! Don’t forget to use the tag, #LetsGoShopping when tweeting about the event. Can’t get to the mall? No problem. We’ll bring the mall to you. Best of all, no mask needed!

Ready for a little retail therapy? Let’s Go Shopping!

No org affiliation? No problem! An invitation to a stylish virtual boutique.

No matter which blindness advocacy organization’s name is printed on your membership card, there’s been a little something for everyone at the summer national conventions. this year, due to the pandemic crisis, our lives seem to have moved online. So has our conference-going. As was the case for many of you, I had planned to attend a number of conferences in person this year, and one by one, they all dropped back and punted to the player on the other team, Zoom.

By this time any other year, I would be exhibiting my Elegant Insights Braille Creations, greeting many of you in person, shaking your hand, introducing you to whomever was working the exhibit hall booth with me, showing you my pretty merchandise, and thanking you for stopping by. Instead, I’m offering my products virtually, via the conference platform chosen by the NFB for their online sessions and hoping you’ll select the link that will deposit you in my Zoom room.

While registered attendees are strongly encouraged to attend the general, educational, and affiliate sessions, the vendors who would typically have exhibit hall hours that did not conflict with the convention agenda would be eagerly awaiting the arrival of the conference attendees, hoping to make some sales. In the case of the convention of the American Council for the Blind, the “exhibit hall” was actually a series of recorded infomercial’s where blind business owners could present everything they possibly could in the span of ten minutes. These recorded presentations were then played on ACB Radio. The NFB invested in an elaborate conference platform, where sessions could be attended virtually, while exhibit hall hours were scheduled throughout the week.

After two days of presenting my products to a mostly empty room, surprising considering the trumpeted number of registered attendees, it has occurred to me that there is no reason to limit my audience to the NFB audience. Anyone can connect to a Zoom room, so I’d like to invite all-comers to a couple of sessions at which I’ll be talking about my products, answering questions, and hopefully, meeting the customers that I’m missing by adhering to the limits of the convention exhibit hall hours.

Copy and paste the link below into your browser to join our virtual booth via Zoom:

Saturday

On Saturday, I’ll be joined by Brent Harbolt from The Harbolt Company, and we’re just going to chat about the convention, check in with our customers about the best sessions, compare notes on how tired we are, and generally shoot the breeze.

Saturday
3PM to 5PM Pacific Time, 6PM to 8PM Eastern: Busy this Saturday night? After a long week working, social distancing, or conventioneering, zoom in to a session that’s all about fashion, fragrance, and fabulous. Laura and Brent invite you to join our Saturday Night Style event, where we’ll chat about apparel and accessories, fragrance and skin care, trends, and bath and beauty products for both men and women. Brent, Laura, and a mixed panel of fashionistas will answer your burning style questions. Need a heads-up about men’s grooming products? Summer trends? Color cosmetics? Hottest men’s fragrances? Ways to wear jewelry and accessories while wearing a mask? Okay, maybe not that last one, but whatever you want to know, we’re here to rescue you from any style emergency.

Whether you have an upcoming job interview, special event, or just want to look your best in all those Zoom meetings, join us from 6 PM to 8 PM Eastern Time, 3PM to 5 PM Pacific for Saturday Night Style. Here is your Zoom invitation:
